Blurb from Goodreads:
Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.
Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.
As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love.

HERE’S MY THOUGHTS!
I am going to warn you that I cried so badly while reading this book. I am not even lying to you. I didn’t bother to wipe my tears and just continued crying until I have slept after reading it. I was a complete mess!
I WAS A COMPLETE MESS AFTER READING!! :((I went through this book without knowing anything back in January 2016. I remembered that at that time I was going through my final exams for my first semester when I started reading this. I wasn’t disappointed at all. All of you know that Morgan Matson is very good writer. I will love any of her stories.
This moving story follows a young girl named Taylor Edwards and she always runs away from her problems whenever she feels like it. However, when her father is diagnosed with a severe health problem, she realizes that she cannot run away anymore.
Taylor’s parents decide to spent their one last summer together at their retreat home that they all left for a long time. Taylor is very hesitant to go back because she leaves everything behind when she’s 12 years old. She leaves her ex-boyfriend, Henry and her best friend, Lisa without any word and explanation. Now, she has to deal with the aftermath and consequences for what she has done 5 years ago. She has to think on how to get all of the second chances that she has missed in order to retrieve the things she dears most.
“A thousand moments that I had just taken for granted mostly because I had assumed that there would be a thousand more.”
Of all Morgan Matson’s books, Second Chance Summer is the most heavy and meaningful story. The readers are shown on how it is to go through the life of a person who is having a sick family member. I am so happy that romance is not really the main drive because I am hoping to get more family and friends elements in this YA book.
Morgan Matson’s main characters are always relatable and realistically written. You will always find something hidden from yourself while delving into the main character’s emotion. I love it how her characters are willing to learn from mistakes they made and deal with their problems to be a better person. The story is more than just romanticizing teenage couples. It is about life and how you make yourself strong to face it.
Overall, I highly recommend any of Morgan Matson’s book to everyone who enjoys reading YA contemporary. Amazing plot line and plot drive, amazing character development and thus Morgan Matson is honestly amazing!! ❤
