Pocahontas, Demolition and ASBOs

I was estuary-bound this Sunday afternoon and ventured down to Gravesend (or should I say Gravesend-Upon-Thames) to take some river snaps. Ultimately what happened instead is that I ended up with a lot of snaps of Tilbury… It seems obvious on reflection but the best way to get snaps of a specific river location is actually not to visit that place at all, and alternatively visit the place opposite it. At least that means I can plan in a trip to Tilbury in future to fulfil the Gravesend (Upon-Thames) photo-dream. During our walk along the Prom, husband and dog (mainly husband) asked unimpressedly ‘where’s Pocahontas then?’ linking to another conversation we’d had a few weeks back where I had to convince him that Pocahontas was a real person who died in Gravesend (Upon-Thames). Perhaps a trip further into town will also be needed to get soak up some un-Disneyed (it’s a word) history.

Anyway, after carefully documenting Tilbury’s Power Stations (which I’m glad I did as sadly it sounds like they’ll have disappeared by this time next year – why is it that Battersea Power Station gets converted into something interesting but Tilbury just gets flattened?) we discovered Embankment Marina tucked behind the Sailing Club where I took my favourite shot – a pic of the lock gates.

I’m going to term this the asbo-photo as I saturated it to within an inch of it’s life afterwards but there was so much colour to be had it felt a shame not to. My second favourite has to be of the binoculars on the prom front – if you can’t use the vignette effect when taking a pic of a telescope then when can you I demand (seriously).
