John the Baptist Said It First*
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 3:2)
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17)
But what does that actually mean?

- view or think of (an action or omission) with deep regret or remorse. “Marian came to repent her hasty judgment”
- archaic feel regret or penitence about. “I repent me of all I did”
As sometimes happens when I hear a word in English, I begin to go down different neural pathways, usually listening for the seemingly unintended ‘pun’. That’s what happened on Friday in our “Faith and Science” group meeting.
It was the use of “pent” that did it.
