What’s it about?

What I liked:
This is a book I have been waiting to read for years. Basically since it came out. I always thought it had sounded like a lot of fun because it dealt with music. I used to play music a lot myself and was also in a band when I was in High School, so it is pretty easy to see how this book would appeal to me. However, I just never got my hands on a copy until recently when I got it off of Book Outlet. But even that was a while ago at this point and, after a few months of having it, I have only just now got to reading it. However, it was definitely a good read despite the long wait. I thought the story was fun and seeing the characters interact with one another in a musical environment was really cool! People connect on a deep level with music and I think that comes across well in this book. Music is important to these kids and music is what brings them together. It is what allows them to express themselves as well as what allows them to connect with one another on a social level when they write and practice together, which I think was really cool to read about in a book. There were so many fun characters because of this music aspect (all the members of the band and more!) that the book was never boring because Char was always with someone. Something was always happening! This book was a quick paced read (which I always adore) and a fun way for me to get back into reading.
What I didn’t like:
Even though I did like the fact that this book had so many characters I would actually say that, in some ways, this was my main qualm with the book. Having so many characters, for me, only became a problem when it came to the boys. I felt like there were too many potential “romantic” interests in this book and that because of this the relationships Char could have had with the boys sometimes got convoluted and I couldn’t really tell who she was going to end up with. I had a hard time trusting my instincts on who I thought the author was pointing Char towards. Also, because of this, I felt Char didn’t actually even get to spend all that much time with the boy she actually liked, which was a little bit of a disappointment.
Should you read it?
If you like music and some good High School drama I would definitely take the time to read this book!
