Sir Owain has been thought to be mad since a disastrous Amazon expedition in which his family and associates were slaughtered by what he claims were mysterious beasts. Now that the same thing is happening in his own village, with the recent murder of two young girls, Becker joins Detective Reed in a suspenseful and murderous search for answers. Beautifully written with plenty of romance and lots of "red herrings" and a great ending! Will definitely read more of this author's books!!
review 2: Now I really want to seek out this author's other books. This is the next book in the se... moreries after The Kingdom of bones. The detective Sebastian Becker is no longer a policeman, he now investigates wealthy eccentrics to determine if they are candidates for Bethleham Hospital. This mystery includes not only city and country life in England but also scenes from an expedition to the Amazon. Great explorations into how the mind works too. less
