Review: Dragon Adventure

Title: Dragon Adventure
Author: Mell Eight
Series: Supernatural Consultant #5.1
Genre: M/M Paranormal
Length: Novella
Available: 17th May

Aqua and Rios are bored, which is always a recipe for disaster. They decide that taking a trip to visit Nickel would be a ton of fun, so they hop on a boat and go sailing down the river. Niagara Falls separates the two kits from their destination, not that they’re aware of that fact, and their fun adventure quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival.

This is a cute, quick read from the Supernatural Consultant world, where two young water dragons decide to go visit a friend because they’re bored. Aqua and Rios are both fifteen, but act a lot younger, so this is a pretty simple tale of adventure, unexpected encounters and a bit of danger, which leads to a little growing up.

It’s enjoyable and sweet and there’s a hint of romance with an intriguing new character, but the only regular series character we see is Dane, and I didn’t find either young dragon anything like as endearing as the usual kits. My constant complaint in this series is “needs more Lumie” and since we didn’t get any of him this time… well, clearly, it needs more Lumie.

So if you’ve not read anything from this series before, this stands alone well enough that you can follow along with ease. Especially if you’re looking for a cute dragon tale with a hint of coming of age. If you are a regular reader of this series, this is just a brief side trip that explores life away from our usual rambunctious crew. I liked it, but it didn’t quite charm me as much as these stories usually do.

Dragon Adventure is out May 17th.
