Goodreads Summary:
Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.
There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.
It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day.
My Review
Wow. Just absolutely wow. Every Day is unlike anything you will ever read!! And although the ending is not entirely what I had hoped for, the story was glorious nonetheless! The style in which this book was written was so wholly captivating. It had me immediately hooked! Levithan writes with this poetic melodious rhythm that makes you fly through the pages.
Every Day follows the ever changing life of A, a being who has the unfortunate predicament of waking up in a new body every morning. It has been like this all of his or her life. A doesn’t have a set gender, he takes on the role of whomever “he” is inhabiting, whether it be a girl, boy, transgender, or otherwise. A is used to this life, has adapted to it, and knows how to get by. That is, until the day A meets Rhiannon. Rhiannon makes A want to stay in one body every day for the rest of the days.
This book makes you realize that love doesn’t have to have a gender to be real. It makes you appreciate how different each person’s life is. A literally gets to walk in the shoes of hundreds upon hundreds of people, developing a new understanding of each type of life that could be lived at the age of 16. It was kind of insane to see each life’s unique aspects. I admire Levithan’s ability to weave a story around an entity who didn’t have a real identity.
The ending was heart wrenching on every level. I was definitely saddened by the way events played out, but it didn’t ruin the overall story. What happened was meant to happen and it was just the reality of things. Every Day was an incredibly different and revealing story that touched on all the complexities of daily living and what it’s like to love someone in any and all situations. I would most definitely recommend you pick up this book!!
