Review: The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and 3/4 by Sue Townsend

I’m heading into the festive season with a chuckle here, so I’m recommending a book guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face: Sue Townsend’s Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and ¾. This thing is a scream from the first sentence…

“My father got the dog drunk on cherry brandy at the party last night. If the RSPCA hear about it he could get done.”

There’s nothing much to explain about it – it’s the diaries of an awkward teenager who writes bad poetry. His parents are splitting up, he’s bullied at school, and he can’t seem to get a break with the girl of his dreams. Oh, and he gets spots too.

Perfectly pitched from first-to-last, it’ll leave you grinning from ear-to-ear.

So what do you think? Any you agree with? Any you disagree with? What have been your reading highlights of the year?

Let me know in the comments!
