League1 Ontario (Men’s) saw Western Conference rivals Sigma FC battling it out against Toronto FC III in early season action.
Duran Lee scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute putting Sigma FC ahead one to zip on his debut, he was eventually substituted in the 88th minute. Later in the first half, Jonathan Grant doubled the lead for Sigma with a goal in the 32nd minute. Malik Johnson of TFC III managed to pull one back for the Reds a mere four minutes later, leaving the scoreline at 2-1 going into halftime.
Johnson’s goal was not enough for the Reds however as Jordan Kalonji scored the third goal for Sigma shortly after the break in the 49th minute, putting the Blues up 3-1. Grant added his second of the game late in the second half, further piling on the misery for TFC III, leaving the final score at 4-1.
With both teams having played only two games so far this season, this allowed Sigma FC to shoot to the top of the table with six points, leaving TFC III in second, ahead of North Mississauga SC, Windsor TFC Stars, and FC London on goal differential, all with three points.
