The January 1-2017 sketch challenge from Stuck?! Sketches is another one knocked out of the sketch park by Laura Whitaker! The sketch features multiple photos (my favourite), a big title and ton of space for making the layout your own. Here is a peek at the sketch:
As soon as I saw the diamonds along the top of the sketch I thought of harlequin designs worn by jesters in the olden day courts which then made me think of funny moments captured in photos which then lead me to one of my most hilarious memories of a 2013 trip to Scotland with my sister Shar (a fellow designer here at Scrapstorian).
Oh my I am actually laughing thinking about this memory as I blog …
Have you seen the Skittles Door Lion Paw commercial? The one where the guy opens a small door in the wall and the rainbow comes pouring into the room and delivers delicious Skittles. Then as he is collecting the Skittles in his hands he sees another door in the wall but when he opens that one a lion’s paw comes reaching into the room and smacks him? I am still laughing.
OK well this lion paw is exactly what came to my mind when my sister and I were visiting the iconic 1800s Urquhart Castle in the highlands of Scotland. I saw an arrow slit high in the wall, told my sister to hold on, ran up the stairs and into the room, then re-enacted the lion paw through the slit. She saw my arm and “paw” from the outside of the arrow slit and knew instantly what I was doing!
Well now that you have been subjected to the off tilt humour of me and my sister (full disclosure our full family is as delightfully twisted), I will now subject you to the layout I created featuring my lion paw re-enactment using the Stuck?! Sketches sketch:
As was probably pretty obvious I tipped the sketch on its side for this layout. I think this sketch could be flipped any such way and still look amazing in a layout. I had so much fun with this sketch and reliving this awesome moment as I created my take!
But wait, wait, wait …
The more I worked on this blog post the less I liked my take on the sketch. Do you sometimes love a layout just to hate it later or vice versa? Well I did the walk away and hate away portion of that option. Doh! I liked the basic elements though so what was bugging me? The white! Too much white!
So here is the final layout I did by cutting all the elements off the one above and putting it on a Bazzill Basics Cardstock Raven background instead of the Avalanche:
