This book follows Edelweiss, a girl who is going to her first ever high school. She’s always been homeschooled and spent her life travelling the world. She wanted to get the “full high school experience” before she goes to college. She even makes a list of things she wants to accomplish before she graduates. But what she didn’t expect was that she would have to sneak into an assembly with the most popular boy at the school.
This story also follows James, a football player with a strict military official for a father. This prankster is to the point where his father is ready to pull him from the boarding school he’s going to, which would ruin any chance he has of going to West Point like he wants. All of a sudden, the answer is in front of him, asking to be her fake boyfriend.
Edel’s father is the US Embassador and friends of James’s father. And James’s father wouldn’t take the chance of pulling James from the school knowing that he’s dating the Embassador’s daughter.
I didn’t think I would enjoy this book very much. I thought that it was going to be a cliche romance that I was just going to get annoyed with. And it definitely was a cliche romance. But I adored that portion of it. I saw someone’s review and they said that the side characters weren’t very fleshed out. I personally slightly disagree. You got to know some of the side characters pretty well. But that’s not the point of the story. The point of the story was to focus on Edel’s relationship with James and I adored that fact.
I enjoyed the refreshing character that Edel was. She owns up to her mistakes and doesn’t blame them on others. She’s a strong female character, in my opinion. She doesn’t depend on James to fix all of her issues.
Overall, I loved this book. I read it in one night. I would recommend it if you’re in the mood for an easy romance. It’s funny but also has it’s serious moments. I was frustrated at points but in the best way! I believe that this book is only going to be for purchase through eReaders, though.
