The Ash House – My Review

Hello, all!

Wowza, this book is completely different than anything I typically read. I would classify this as a supernatural/horror read. It is the first of its kind that I have read, and I was pleasantly surprised!

This book essentially follows a dying woman and her son. Because she knows she is dying, she wants to find out if her mother’s home is actually haunted in the hopes that when she dies, she can come back and haunt her son. Creepy right? It may be creepy, but I found myself admiring her determination to want to be there for her family, even in death.

Anyhoo, she goes along, trying to figure out if this house is haunted. She can’t seem to feel or see anything supernatural, but her son does. Her son does over, and over, and over again. He keeps quiet about it for the most part, so no one really knows what is going on. However, the ghosts that he encounters are down right creepy.

Amy Cross does a great job of keeping the reader on the edge of their seats with this one. There were times I felt as if I was watching a horror movie. I made the mistake of reading at night and almost ….ALMOST….needed a night light. DON’T JUDGE ME!

The reason I gave this 4 starts instead of 5 is because of the writing. The writing level is pretty low and it lacks depth. There are parts of the story that are amazingly descriptive, while other parts fall flat. I also gave it 4 stars because parts of the story are dry. I found myself wondering “Okay, where are we going with this” on a few occasions.

Overall, it is a great book for those interested in the things that go BUMP in the night. She depicts the ghosts in a interesting manner that is something right out of a horror movie. The story line is great and you can’t help but feel for the characters. Check it out!

XOXO,

Tiffany

Goodreads Blurb:

Why would anyone ever return to a haunted house?

For Diane Mercer the answer is simple. She’s dying of cancer, and she wants to know once and for all whether ghosts are real.

FROM THE AUTHOR OF ASYLUM, HAUNTED AND THE NIGHT GIRL.

Heading home with her young son, Diane is determined to find out whether the stories are real. After all, everyone else claimed to see and hear strange things in the house over the years. Everyone except Diane had some kind of experience in the house, or in the little ash house in the yard.

As Diane explores the house where she grew up, however, her son is exploring the yard and the forest. And while his mother might be struggling to come to terms with her own impending death, Daniel Mercer is puzzled by fleeting appearances of a strange little girl who seems drawn to the ash house, and by strange, rasping coughs that he keeps hearing at night.

THE ASH HOUSE is a horror novel about a woman who desperately wants to know what will happen to her when she dies, and about a boy who uncovers the shocking truth about a young girl’s murder.
