Amelia Richards and James Bradley have a short and whirlwind romance while he is on leave from fighting in World War II and plan to be married. But James is called back to service just before the wedding. Months later, Amelia finds herself alone and jobless, she takes their son Jimmy to meet his paternal grandparents in Montana. She bravely sets out despite the fear that James’ family won’t accept her and her son. What she finds is a Christmas blessing.
This is a sentimental and sweet story. At first, nothing seems to go well for Amelia, but she is resilient and meets people on her journey that offer her help. Regardless of the hopelessness in the beginning, you knew the ending would be favorable, because of the title. The story was somewhat predictable, but that isn’t necessarily a negative thing. I would have appreciated a few more details in the story. I felt there were gaps in the narrative that were skimmed over and some of those gaps had the potential to be the best parts. I liked Amelia; she was a loving and a conscientious mother and did her best to provide for her son. James’ father, Dr. Bradley was also endearing, he was compassionate and generous. This is the type of story that would make a good Hallmark movie.
I would recommend this story if you are looking for a light, easy to read and sentimental story.
