review 1: Very nice addition to the sword of truth series. I liked it. The only thing that blunted my enjoyment was that I listened to the audible version of the book, and whoever handled the editing of the audio did an absolutely terrible job of editing and monitoring the recording. I topped counting when I hit double digits for the number of mistakes in the book, (and that was just in the first half of the book). I will not purchase any further books read by this person, because I would fear that they are just as poorly edited. Otherwise, the book filled in a lot of gaps in the sword of truth series, and gave a lot of background that adds nicely to the overall picture. I am definitely looking forward to others in the series.
review 2: First of all I will say that... more I am a huge Sword of Truth fan, but Terry's writing has really been getting to me. I have read first The Law of Nines, and now The First Confessor after the Sword of Truth series, and it seems pretty obvious to me that the only main characters Terry can come up with are Richard and Kahlan. Magda is Kahlan and Merritt is Richard. This of course is only scratching the surface of how disappointing this book was. From the underwhelming creation of the Sword of Truth, the non-descriptive transformation from human to confessor, and the way Quinn (Kolo) destroyed and falsified his own records as well as creating the apparently entirely fake Book of Counted Shadows, there were just too many annoyances to consider this even a decent read. I unfortunately will be going out of my way to warn all Sword of Truth fans about the decline in Terry's writing abilities and suggest that they all stop reading after Confessor. less
