It’s been almost a month from the most recent Game of Thrones episode, and though I have recently rewatched it, I am still not quite sure what I think about it.
First of all, the whole idea of trying the Targaryen faction trying to convince Cersei to co-operate seems very far-fetched to me. There is nothing that you can offer Cersei that she can possibly want unless you give up the throne, Dany. You mark my words. Hoping that Cersei will help you for the good of mankind is completely misunderstanding her character.
Secondly, the way in which Cersei co-operated with Euron feels a bit far-fetched to me. Did they have the whole scheme planned out between them before the meeting as Cersei told Jaime? In that case, why did Cersei seem so shocked when the undead zombie made an appearance? Surely, if Euron had agreed to act scared of the army of the dead, they both must have known there would be an undead creature present during the meeting?
The scene between Sansa, Arya and Littlefinger was very enjoyable, though in a way which clearly favoured the viewer’s surprise over a realistic portrayal of the situation.
By contrast, the much longed for sex-scene between Jon and Dany was made as unsexy as possible, featuring a voiceover from Bran Stark and Sam Tarly which revealed that Dany and Jon were aunt and nephew. If that wasn’t a breach of privacy enough for your taste –Tyrion was also listening to the action in the bedroom, apparently displeased.
His displeasure has already been analyzed in quite a few blogposts, so I won’t dwell on it here. Some seem to think he’s displeased because he’s also in love with Dany- others think it’s because he has made a deal with Cersei that her unborn child would inherit the kingdom. I’m not sure which it is – or if it’s just awkward for him to be listening to other people’s sex noises.
As to the last scene of the episode, I’m one of those people who find it very confusing that the icy cold breath of an undead dragon can destroy a wall made of ice… Surely the fact that the dragon’s breath is ice, should reinforce the wall rather than destroy it? Where is Joramun’s horn when the Night King really needs one?
Grumble, grumble, grumble
On a much lighter note– one of my favourite characters has unpredictably become one of the most sought after ladies in Westeros.
Introducing our bachelorette, the gorgeous Brienne of Tarth and her three potential suitors…. Who will she choose?
A) Jaime Lannister… he’s dreamy bad boy who is in love with his evil sister the queen – but can Brienne of Tarth make him change his naughty ways?
B) Tormund Giantsbane – a feisty redhead from the North, known for biting people’s necks in half. He is known to have a thing for tall blondes and he is head over heels in love with Brienne – but will he still be alive after the destruction of the wall?
C) Sandor Clegane – can this fierce Hound turn into a lapdog under Brienne’s firm yet tender blows? They have bonded over Arya, but can Brienne look past the Hound’s tough façade and see, well, the rough & tough survivor behind all that armour?
