Chasing the Skanadian slave – traders who kidnapped Will and Evanlyn, Ranger Halt and warrior student Horace find themselves on the frozen northern islands, where they battle a ruthless black clad knight as they attempt to rescue their friends.
This book was just as good as all the books in the series before this. We did not hear that much about Will and Evanlyn as we heard about Horace and Halt. But that was ok because nothing really happened to them once they were in Skanadia. I think that this book could have had a little room for improvement though. I will tell you why now.
The characters were very good. I was a little upset that we did not hear about Will and Evanlyn that much. But like I said above once they got to Skanadia nothing really happened until the end of the book. Then we got more of their chapters. Meanwhile Halt and Horace were going on all sorts of adventures. It was awesome. As usual all of the characters (including the side characters) were very fleshed out. I enjoyed the side characters who ended up playing an important part in the book when at first I thought that they weren’t very special. After all, if the character doesn’t have a purpose then why is in the book? That is a question I ask myself when I am writing my WIP. I was glad that everyone in the book had a purpose of some kind and weren’t just sitting around and doing nothing.
The plot was very well written. Most of the chapters ended in cliffhangers of some kind so you were always wondering what was going to happen next. The book was told in two different points of view. One was the point of view of Will and Evanlyn and the other was the viewpoint of Halt and Horace. The viewpoints switched in between chapters randomly. This was good because it always kept you on your toes. I like that in a book. The setting was very well done and descriptive. Once again, I could imagine myself there and adventuring with the characters. The dialogue was once again very funny. It always is. I hope that it is as funny in all of the books to come. I loved this book and I hope that you do as well.
