The Last Time We Say Goodbye is a realistic fiction novel told around Lex’s brothers death. There’s also multiple mentioning’s of Lex’s brothers death. If these are triggers for you, then I suggest that you don’t read this book.
We read this book through Lex’s point of view. However, this view is split into two parts: the present day Lex, and the Lex we see through her journal. I actually really liked the parallels of both present day and of Lex in her journal. I enjoyed how honest Lex could be in her journal. — I’m actually really glad that I got to see Lex work through her stages of grief.
I’m pretty sure that we find out right from the beginning of the book that her brother had killed himself. We just don’t find out how until nearing the end of the book. And we never really find out why; even though Tyler did leave a note.
I ended up giving The Last Time We Say Goodbye, 3 of 5 stars on Goodreads. While I didn’t entirely enjoy readin this book per se, I do now have a fondness for it. And the ending made me cry; so that’s a thing.
