The Review:

I originally read The Murder Complex back in 2014 but I recently bought the sequel, The Death Code, over Christmas and rereading the first book in this duology was an absolute must. I wanted to remember everything that brought plot of the novel to where it is and I’m so glad I did. I can try to give you guys a summary without spoiling anything but I can’t promise anything. I also can’t promise that the summary will be any good either.

The Murder Complex follows our main characters Meadow and Zephyr. Meadow is trained to survive while Zephyr is trained to kill. Nothing connects them at first but Meadow soon finds out that there is something very dark connecting them. The Murder Complex.

I hope that was good enough.

THE CHARACTERS:

I want to get into these characters first thing because I still can’t get over how good these characters where!  Meadow has got to be my favorite female character of the year so far. She’s so strong but still has human flaws. Meadow is ready to kill and do anything to protect her to protect her family but there are times when she hesitates. She saves Zephyrs life, a life that really shouldn’t mean anything to her.

Her character growth is so amazing! This is the kind of character growth I need in life! She’s already strong but becomes even stronger and let’s herself become more vulnerable to the people she cares about.

Zephyr is the kind of character I want to wrap up in bubble wrap and keep him safe. He so precious and sweet! No matter how much attitude or death threats Meadow gives him he stills sticks with her. I noticed that Zephyr doesn’t need Meadow. Now before you guys find me and beat me to a pulp here is my reasoning. There’s always a male character that is deemed as weak and they need the strong female character to survive. Zephyr is not like that at all. He survived in a post apocalyptic like hell before Meadow and he could probably survive without her.  He doesn’t need to be with her but he chooses to be with her.

These characters are so beautifully done! I love how strong each one of them are and I love how each one of them has a specific role that is necessary to the plot.

THE WORLD:

I’m keeping this part of the world short only because there is so much going on in this world that if I tried to include everything this review would be very long.

I love how raw and gritty the world is. The story is set in a post disease ridden Florida with no way for the citizens to escape or for anyone else to come in. There will be blood, death and other grotesque things spewing out of the human body. Just because this is a YA novel does not mean things like murder and vomiting will be covered up in flowery language and I love it.

THE STORY:

We finally end the review with the story line that I absolutely love! Just the story itself will keep you guessing until you’re surprised by the final reveal. The plot twists had me screaming in my room and gasping in public. I stayed up later than I should just to get to a plot twist reveal so I could stop creating crack pot theories with no absolute answer.

If you’re in the mood for a post apocalyptic like story that’s raw and gritty and full of strong and beautiful characters then you should definitely pick up The Murder Complex! If you’ve read it already share your comments below! Let’s have a discussion!
