A young girl walked through the city. Grey clouds covered every bit of blue in the sky. It would rain soon. She stared at the grey road as she walked. Tears dotted her eyes. She breathed in deeply as she tried to keep them from getting any bigger.
She kept on walking through the empty streets alone.
She came upon an obelisk. It had always been there, but this was the first time the girl really saw it. At its base was a statue of a man, his arms blocking the light from a sun which had been hidden by clouds. A permanent fearful expression was carved into his face as some unseen foe brought a sword down upon him.
But to the girl the hand wasn’t just the hand of someone who feared for his life and feared the light of the sun. He was reaching up towards the sun. He was dreaming about the future.
And as the girl looked at this statue and thought, she smiled. The sun peeked out from behind the clouds as the girl herself reached up towards the sky.
