review 1: The description of this book made me think the surveys were collected from women who run the gamut of identities; i'ts true that many cultures are represented, but otherwise it seemed the vast majority were artists and hipsters living in New York or Canada. It is in need of better organization. When I'm reading about something so individual and personalized, I want to know something about the writer/speaker to give it context. The only way to do that was to keep cross-referencing to the index of contributers in the back--way too tedious. It's a big book and could stand some editing; it took some sifting to find the gems.

... moregh and couldn't take it anymore. It's just a selected dump of the raw data they collected through this survey and some interviews and home visits. There is no synthesis, there are no larger insights. So it's just these random people I have no reason to care about, many of them seeming to be friends of the authors, musing at length about their clothes. There's no structure, no pattern. I was shocked to find myself disappointed by this book which I had so looked forward to reading. less
