review 1: I paid money for this. What do I want for my money? An ending, you are the author, finish what you started, is that too much to ask for? The ending left hanging is much worse than the slicked up, hurry up, quickie ending, in my opinion. This type of ending frustrates me. I've gotten to know your characters, the good and the bad. The bad is really bad, really bad. The good is so-so, I liked her enough not to want her to get caught up with the bad guy. But don't leave me hanging at the end. I despise that. I don't want to make up my own ending. I don't want to imagine what wil end up happening. If I did those things, hell, I'd be a writer. Instead, I am a reader and now I am a reader who is seriously disgruntled with the ending of this book.
review 2:... more> I would rate this book a solid 4 1/2 stars. I thought it was a great thriller with interesting characters and a very interesting theme at its heart. The book tells the story of lonely people whose deaths are not missed by anyone...people without connections of family, friends or any other connections...people who are essentially invisible. Police analyst Annabel finds one of these people...her next door neighbour, who she thought had moved away. As she is somewhat lonely herself and feels out of step with the people around her, Annabel starts to search to see just how many people are out there like her neighbour-dying alone and unmissed by greater society. What she discovers sets her searching to find out more, and puts her at risk from someone who also has the same interest as she does, but is his interest in lonely unloved people as benign as hers? A really good thriller by a consistently good author. Haynes does not disappoint. less
