review 1: I loved the story here; the characters were well-conceived and fascinating. My children (9 & 11) both loved it, which speaks well to its appeal among its target demographic. I have to admit, though, the art left me cold. I like the *idea* of one writer working with several different artists, but there was such a wide variety of style and quality that it became distracting to me. Comics are a unique medium, where writer & artist work together to tell a story... and that can't happen unless they are intimate with each other's styles. Each chapter felt like its own beginning, that might go somewhere, eventually... but doesn't get the chance.
review 2: Neither of these princesses is typical, one is a strong fighter, and the other a lover of books, and they are the ... morebest of friends. Their adventure is drawn by multiple artists. Two of the artists use a very appropriate style for a fairytale based world. The others vary greatly in their approach. Fortunately, although the aesthetic pleasure changes, the enjoyment from the written story remains constant. They and the spirit dog, Yonder, are sure to face even better adventures in volume two. less
