The Photographer is a short film that last 26 minutes. Is a very interesting film about a master of photography in his era witch is the 20th century called Edward Weston. He was a man that was arguable one of Americas most influential photographers of the 20th century. The film was made in 1948 and was made by the American filmmaker Willard Van Dyke.
This film was based around Edward Weston work and his way of seeing and thinking of the world. As the film was shot in 1948 everything is back and white but this is not a hindrance to the film if anything this is something that I would personal adds to the film. I say this as it allows you to get really immersed in the film without being distracted by all the rich colours that are going on, on the screen. Personally i feel that the black and white allows you to appreciate the grate shorts in the film and further more the photos that he takes.
In this short film there was one quote that was said that really stuck with me. The quote is “He does not feel man must scare the face of nature to use her wealth”. This was said when the director was talking about how Edward Weston would take photo of nature as he say the beauty in it.
I found this a very interesting film and i really liked finding out about the way he thought and saw the world around him. I found a thing that stuck out to me was when they talked about his care in his care and attention to detail in all his photos but aseptically when he took portraits of people. This was as he would find out about the person and would observe them before taking the photo. This lead to him gaining insight into the person and finding the way he wanted to take his photo.
One of the key things i noticed about Edward Weston was that even his movement were slow and gentle. I felt this was interesting as this was something I saw when he was also taking his pictures. Every movement was slow and gentle.
This is a film that i greatly enjoyed watching and I found very interesting. I found myself hooked on it and not wanting to be distracted. I also felt that i learnt more about Photography and i feel after watching this it will help me take better photos and have a better appreciation for photos.
