“Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.”
Every quest begins with a prophecy. And our heroes are always on a mission to save the world from destruction and evil.

In The Son of Neptune, the adventure continues. We meet new heroes from the gods’ roman side. We meet old ones and their appearance was sweet breeze that warmed my heart and made me realize even more how much I missed Rick Riordan‘s world and characters.
Percy is confused. When he awoke from his long sleep, he didn’t know much more than his name. His brain fuzz is lingering, even after the wolf Lupa told him he is a demigod and trained him to fight with the pen/sword in his pocket. Somehow Percy manages to make it to a camp for half-bloods, despite the fact that he has to keep killing monsters along the way. But the camp doesn’t ring any bells with him. The only thing he can recall from his past is another name: Annabeth
Hazel is supposed to be dead. When she lived before, she didn’t do a very good job of it. Sure, she was an obedient daughter, even when her mother was possessed by greed. But that was the problem — when the Voice took over her mother and commanded Hazel to use her “gift” for an evil purpose, Hazel couldn’t say no. Now because of her mistake, the future of the world is at risk. Hazel wished she could ride away from it all on the stallion that appears in her dreams.
Frank is a klutz. His grandmother says he is descended from heroes and can be anything he wants to be, but he doesn’t see it. He doesn’t even know who his father is. He keeps hoping Apollo will claim him, because the only thing he is good at is archery — although not good enough to win camp war games. His bulky physique makes him feel like an ox, especially infront of Hazel, his closest friend at camp. He trusts her completely — enough to share the secret he holds close to his heart.
Beginning at the “other” camp for half-bloods and extending as far as the land beyond the gods, this breathtaking second installment of the Heroes of Olympus series introduces new demigods, revives fearsome monsters, and features other remarkable creatures, all destined to play a part in the Prophesy of Seven.
“Hey!” said the guy in the video. “Greetings from your friends at Camp Half-Blood, et cetera. This is Leo. I’m the…” He looked off screen and yelled: “What’s my title? Am I like admiral, or captain, or-“
A girl’s voice yelled back, “Repair boy.”
“Very funny, Piper,” Leo grumbled. He turned back to the parchment screen. “So yeah, I’m…ah..supreme commander of the Argo II. Yeah, I like that! Anyway, we’re gonna be sailing towards you in about, I dunno, an hour in this big mother warship. We’d appreciate it if you’d not, like, blow us out of the sky or anything. So okay! If you could tell the Romans that. See you soon. Yours in demigodishness, and all that. Peace out!”
Continuing her plan to unite half-bloods, the queen of Olympus; Hera – or Juno as referred to in roman mythology – leads our one and only hero to the roman camp for half-bloods – the Jupiter’s camp. Remembering absolutely nothing from his past Percy has one option ahead of him and that is to make peace and new friend at this completely bizarre camp of half-bloods who follows rules, ways and traditions that he’s absolutely positive are not familiar with.
He meets with our two new characters, Hazel; who’s the daughter of Pluto but she hails from another era of time – long story that I was delighted to get to know, a blast from the past with a touch of history – and it all made her story and chapters to be my favorite in this installment; and her powers are fantastically interesting. And the other is Frank; a mix. The son of Mars – god of war, and the great great grandson of Neptune from his mother’s side; with a brand new power we find our war tactic and master; that boy is absolutely brilliant and I’m honestly buzzing with excitement to see what he & Leo will be up to in the next books.
I loved Percy in this book so much; more than I already did. He’s older now, mature, he grew already into his character. You could feel a difference in his attitude – more manish but still as loyal, young and free-spirited as always. His ability to adapt, make friends out of enemies and face any crap coming his way is truly empowering and somehow real. Sometimes when you read a story of heroes you find it difficult to relate to that hero, they seem to be so out of this world; but with Percy that’s not the case at all. Yes, he’s a demi-god which is definitely a work a fiction but you could easily relate to his personality, his life of obstacles after obstacles, his friendships and romance, the hardships life throw at him; it’s not possible to not love this boy.
I enjoyed seeing the roman side of the gods, especially Mars. That super-speedy horse Arion was awesome and the stunts each of them pulled on their way to rescue the god of death were thrilling; the kind of thrilling that’ll put you on the edge of your seat to the last line of the book.
More adventures, more rescue missions, more gods to save and enemies to stop; the plot is getting more wide open and we get a more in depth history concerning the whole Roman/Greek mythology and it was awesome. I cannot wait to read more adventures now that the group of seven heroes is meeting-up.
