I was tagged by Paige Hadley forever ago, and I am finally getting around to posting this! Paige, I am sorry it took me so long to respond, but your questions were great, so I can’t not do this!
Anyway, here are the rules:

Let’s get started:
1. What fortress from a fantasy book would you most want to be inside if you were under attack?
I feel like Hogwarts would be a pretty impenetrable prison. You know, at least, until The Battle of Hogwarts. With all those catacombs, and rooms I feel like I could use to hide pretty easily, especially if I made some friends with the ghosts.
2. If you could pick any artist – living or dead – to design all of your blog graphics, who would it be and why?
I really like Arturo Herrera’s style. People probably don’t know who he is, but I was a docent at the Aldridge Museum of Contemporary Art years ago while they were showing his work. I loved his use of materials and his homage to what I considered different elements of my childhood.
3. What is one trait that you envy most in other people and why?
I really envy people who have the guts to go up to someone and just start a conversation. I feel like that’s a skill I lack.
4. What three book characters would you want in your dream high school posse?
A high school posse is always the hardest for me to craft, but I think if I could decide on one, it would be Raven from The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver. She’s independent, fierce, and a good leader.
I think I would want Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series to be in my posse. I like how she sees the world and even though she’s odd I think that would be refreshing.
Hazel Grace Lancaster from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and I, would probably get along pretty well. So, I think she would be my third.
5. If your house were on fire and you only had time to save one book, what would it be and why is it so special to you?
If my house was on fire, I would probably go after a photo album or a recipe book. We have some recipes handwritten on index cards that I think would be important to save.
6. What fellow book blogger inspires you the most and why? (Tag them to send them some love!)
One of the first book bloggers I forged a connection with was Ola from Ola Reads Books. She’s really awesome. I am sorry I haven’t been around too much Ola, and I am still working on that Scavenger Hunt Tag you tagged me in. (Yes, I am forever behind!)

7. What is one small thing you can do today to surprise someone with kindness?
I have a regular habit of going on a certain board on Ravelry and gifting people patterns from their wish list. It typically costs about $6 on average, and it completely makes someone’s day.
I think most recently I sent someone a pattern for some color work mittens they wanted to knit as a memorial to their grandmother who recently passed away.
8. Can you name one story that you believe can be enjoyed universally?
I am not sure there is such a thing as universal enjoyment, but I think that there are some books that hit a note that strikes a chord with multiple generations, and makes the book endure.
For me, two instances include when I was at the Harry Potter exhibit in New York City several years ago, and there were two older women in front of me who were talking about how skeptical they were of the series, and how ironic it was that they were now at the prop show exhibit.
A second instance came from reading the opening introduction to the 20th anniversary edition of The Giver, where the author talks about the range of reactions he had to the book. They weren’t all positive, but clearly people were reading the book, so I think that says something.
Now, personally, the book that I find myself recommending to almost everyone is City of Thieves by David Benioff, I think it’s a very smart novel, it’s got a bit of action, and the plot sounds so ridiculous when you try to summarize it in a few sentences that it easily catches someone’s attention.
If you’re curious, the summary I use is: “Two prisoners of war form an unlikely friendship when they are given the chance to earn their freedom by procuring a dozen eggs for a high-ranking colonel’s daughter’s wedding.”
9. Can you think of three songs that would make the perfect soundtrack to your favorite book?
My favorite book is Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger and it’s a book that I feel fits my taste in music. If I had to pick three songs that fit it perfectly, they would be:
“Cosmic Love” by Florence + The Machine: It has a really sultry tone to it that I think really captures what the book is about.
“Lonely Ghosts” by O+S: I love this song and I think it fits the setting and some of the main storylines in the book really well.
“The Minnow and the Trout” by A Fine Frenzy: Again, this really has to do with some of the notes of the story, and I think the theme of dominance is really touched upon the book.
10. If you were an inter-dimensional tourist, what fictional place would you most like to visit for holiday?
You mean, besides Hogwarts?
This one is hard, because I tend to want to visit real places that inspired the fictional story, like Highgate Symmetry.
As I think about it, I think I want to visit the world that The Eyre Affair takes place in. I’ve been trying to work through that audiobook for a while, but seriously Thursday Next gets paid to solve literary crimes. Can we take a moment and think about how fricken cool that is.
11. Can you describe your fondest childhood reading experience?
I remember my third grade teacher reading the first chapter of Harry Potter to our class, and how much I really liked it.
I also remember thinking to myself, “This is probably just another fad like Pokemon and Digimon.” Then that summer we ordered the first book on Amazon, and it all went downhill from there.
