So, when my partner moved in and brought so many books! I couldn’t be happier… so many new things to read. The possibilities are endless at least until I’ve read everything. It was through this that I was introduced to the author Mike Gayle.
The To Do List, follows Mike in his quest to finish everything on his to do list as he will soon be closer to forty than thirty. Maybe finishing this to do list will make him into a proper adult. It’s great because it feels like me, I always have a million things on my to do list and I rarely get to any of them. It’s easy to relate to this book as things never go as planned. Unexpected lessons are learned at every corner of this book.
The To Do List reminded me that it is okay to try and fail and that getting older isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes we set certain timelines for ourselves that seem realistic but later our lives go in a different direction and we see it as a failure for not meeting our goals. I mean I really thought that by the age of twenty-five I would be engaged and have a well paying job working in a museum. Well, I’ll be twenty-five in January and I am in no position to get engaged. I work in a completely different industry than I thought I would. All of this doesn’t mean I’m a failure it just means my life took a twist I wasn’t expecting. This book helped me to understand that it’s okay, I am not a failure.
Mike Gayle is also a super funny writer, the little stories and anecdotes are fantastic and make it an easy read with a bigger message.
Happy Reading!
