So these books. I read them. I love them. I need more of them NOW. Here’s a gift from me to you: do NOT read these if you hate cliffhangers. Jessica Sorensen is the queen of cliffhangers and she shows off her abundant talent in these two books. As of the publication of this post, the third book hasn’t been published. Which means your friendly Rose Gold Reviews reviewer, Laura, will be huddling in the corner until the next book comes out, unable to do life. That cliffhanger though!!
Okay. So on to the review:
- Romance: So if I’m honest, the romance is so-so. It’s a little too fall in love immediately for my taste. They have a LOT of challenges to overcome so they can be together, but at the end of the day, you know they’re going to end up together. The one caveat is that if she drew out the love story, there might have been too much going on.
- Grammar/Editing: These books are not at all well edited. There were some definite spelling and grammar issues. However, these issues weren’t enough to take away from the story at hand. They were distracting for sure and made my fingers itch for a red pen, but were fairly easy to overlook.
- Storyline: Okay, so I read a lot. Like a lot a lot. So it’s hard for there to be a truly unique storyline since I’ve read so much. HOWEVER, these books are totally the exception! The storyline is so fresh but it’s also twisty and turny (yes I made up that word) and so exciting! One thing you should know about me: I like books that can seem to be rooted in present day reality. These books are definitely in the realm of reality, however, it can seem a little too coincidental at times… everyone is kind of connected in a weird sort of way that wouldn’t happen in every day life. But, that’s not enough to deter me from being engrossed and in mourning that book three hasn’t been released yet.
- Special: These are special if only because of the storyline and the very many moving pieces.
- Recommend: I’m not sure if you could tell, but it’s a HELL YEAH from me! This series is super great so far and I can’t wait for it to continue! That’s not to say it’s perfect, because it’s not. The character development sometimes feels like it take a backseat to the storyline, it’s got some definite grammar, spelling and editing errors but overall, it’s one of the best I’ve read in a while!
I’ll do another review once the next book (or two… I cannot imagine how it’s going to wrap up in just one more book). In the meantime, I’ll be in the corner sweating it out until the next one is released!
Bye y’all!
