TIM BOWLER – RIVER BOY
I am pleased to announce that we have popular author Tim Bowler coming to visit us on Tuesday 27th February. He will be speaking to the whole of year 7 and 8, but everyone will have the chance to meet him at a book signing at morning break time and at a lunchtime event. Before his visit, if you do nothing else then read his amazing book, River Boy, winner of the Carnegie Medal.
Fifteen-year-old Jess, a dedicated swimmer, dotes on her grandfather, a fiercely independent artist. When he falls ill, he insists on returning to the isolated valley where he lived as a child to finish his last painting ‘River Boy’. Jess is desperately trying to cope with the knowledge that her grandfather is dying, and she does her best to help him finish the painting that is so important to him.
I loved this book and could not sleep after reading it. I found this book to be haunting, poetic and very strong on atmosphere. It deals with the subject of death and bereavement in such a positive way, and left me feeling uplifted and inspired. Available from your LRC today!
