Now that it has been September for a while, and we have had some time to think about all the books that we read this summer, in the months from May until August, we thought it would be fun to share with you guys which reads we enjoyed the most! Here we go!
I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios
If Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing separating Skylar from art school is three months of summer…until Skylar’s mother loses her job, and Skylar realizes her dreams may be slipping out of reach.
Josh had a different escape route: the Marines. But after losing his leg in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be.
What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and, soon, something deeper.
We absolutely adored this book and its characters! It is a great summer read. Full of everything you would expect in a YA Contemporary. Romance. Heartbreak. Friendship. Parental Struggles. Everything. You can read more about what we thought of I’ll Meet You There in our review here!
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
Would you trade your soul mate for your soul?
A Shadowhunter’s life is bound by duty. Constrained by honor. The word of a Shadowhunter is a solemn pledge, and no vow is more sacred than the vow that binds parabatai, warrior partners—sworn to fight together, die together, but never to fall in love.
Emma Carstairs has learned that the love she shares with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, isn’t just forbidden—it could destroy them both. She knows she should run from Julian. But how can she when the Blackthorns are threatened by enemies on all sides?
It’s pretty much a no-brainer to anyone who has read our site for a while that we LOVED this newest book from Cassandra Clare. We can safely say she is one of our favorite authors and she only gets better. Lord of Shadows is her best book yet and we explain why we think so in our review here.
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.
Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.
It seems its not very often that we get to read a true YA mystery novel, and this Holmesian tale set in Victorian England and following a badass, feminist main character, is definitely not one to pass up. We cannot recommend this violent, sometimes gruesome, but utterly un-putdownable murder mystery enough! Not to mention Audrey Rose Wadsworth is literally our fictional best friend.
Well that is all that we have for today! What books did you guys read and love this summer? Did you read any of these? If so, what did you think of them? We would LOVE to know!
