Stacey Rourke is the author of the award winning YA Gryphon Series, a chillingly suspenseful Legends Saga, and the romantic comedy Adapted for Film. She lives in Michigan with her husband, two beautiful daughters, and two giant dogs. She loves to travel, has an unhealthy shoe addiction, and considers herself blessed to make a career out of talking to the imaginary people that live in her head.

The first thing I read of Rourke’s was a retelling, which is why the thought of her writing a vampire mystery seemed so interesting to me. The blurb sounded heady and the character sounded like someone I’d learn to love, messed up past and all. The beginning started off interesting enough: auction, bored rich people who happened to be living legends. Sounds exciting right? But as things occurred, I quickly found that it would personally not work for me.

There were a few exciting moments and things that made me go ‘Whoa’ as I hurried to read more, but majority of the time, I was trudging through it. I still enjoyed Rourke’s style of writing, but her constant presentation of her main character was something that I couldn’t get into, which affected the way I read the rest of the story. I do commend her, though, for writing a pretty interesting world where vampires seek to be more than the human-made myths. I totally delved into the political fights and confrontations.

The ending’s climax was pretty cool, so even if I’d label this book as not for me, I still thought it read interestingly enough to recommend it to those who like action with their bit of drama. Just be prepared for a double whammy!
