Waiting on Wednesday: Beast: A Tale of Love and Revenge by Lisa Jensen

Release Date: July 10, 2018

Publisher: Candlewick Press

Synopsis:

They say Château Beaumont is cursed. But servant-girl Lucie can’t believe such foolishness about handsome Jean-Loup Henri Christian LeNoir, Chevalier de Beaumont, master of the estate. The chevalier’s cruelty is soon revealed, however, and Lucie vows to see him suffer. A wisewoman grants her wish, with a spell that transforms Jean-Loup into monstrous-looking Beast, reflecting the monster he is inside.

But Beast is nothing like the chevalier. Jean-Loup would never patiently tend his roses; Jean-Loup would never attempt poetry; Jean-Loup would never express remorse for the wrong done to Lucie. Gradually, Lucie realizes that Beast is an entirely different creature from the handsome chevalier, with a heart more human than Jean-Loup’s ever was.

Lucie dares to hope that noble Beast has permanently replaced the cruel Jean-Loup — until an innocent beauty arrives at Beast’s château with the power to break the spell.

Lisa Jensen’s multilayered novel will make you question all you think you know about beauty, beastliness, and happily ever after.

Why I am excited:

I absolutely love Beauty and the Beast and not just the Disney version either.  The original is fantastic and I highly recommend reading it. I was intrigued by the reviews on GoodReads that spoke about how the story was like that of the Brothers Grimm; dark and intriguing. Beast also puts a new spin on the tale because there is the chance that the Chevalier will come back as evil or even more so than before.  Though the whole point of the story is to have the Prince develop a human heart so maybe, in the end, that will happen here, but I am doubting that because that seems too predictable. I am also looking forward to finding out how Lucie will treat the “innocent beauty”. Will she welcome her or will she detest her for being able to bringing back the monstrous Chevalier?

Do you enjoy reading retellings? Are you excited for this book to come out? Tell me in the comments! I would love to hear from you! ❤️
