Watching The Lost Boys at Lancaster Vault

This time last week, I watched The Lost Boys at Lancaster Vault as part of Southampton Film Week 2017.

One of Southampton’s underground stone vaults, Lancaster Vault was the perfect location for this spooky 80s hit, and, arguably, the vampire film to rule them all.

In fact, the location was a bigger selling point for me than the actual film, as I watched The Lost Boys when I was younger and didn’t particularly enjoy it. But the location and atmosphere, as well as the movie itself made for a really fun Friday night.

In case you don’t know, The Lost Boys is a 1980s American horror comedy film directed by Joel Schumacher, and starring the likes of Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland and Edward Herrmann. It tells the story of two Arizona brothers who move to California, only to end up fighting a gang of young vampires.

Dodgy female characterisations aside, the teen horror cult classic has it all – the two Coreys, sex appeal and great one-liners. One of my favourites? Corey Haim’s zingy line, “My own brother – a goddamn shit-sucking vampire! You wait til mum finds out!”.

I really enjoyed The Lost Boys this time around and, with 2017 marking the 30th anniversary of the film, I’d definitely recommend it to others.

Have you watched The Lost Boys? What did you think?
