review 1: In The Ogre of Oglefort, a Hag who runs an inn must find a new familiar after her toad decides to go on strike. A young friend, an orphan by the name of Ivo volunteers. They and their friends, a troll, and a wizard named Brian are sent to "rescue" a princess from an ogre. Little do they know that she had actually WANTED to find the ogre, and the situation was actually a lot different than they thought!
review 2: While this is not a perfect book, it is Eva Ibbotson's last and has her usual cast of fanciful characters and a couple of kind, well intentioned humans who help save the day. And there are lots of twists which add to the fun. A princess who doesn't want to live that life goes off in search of an ogre who will change her into something more acceptable
... moreto her values and life style...and when she "goes missing" a group of supernaturals are sent off to rescue her. The ogre has problems of his own and so there is much to be resolved at Oglefort castle. While much can be predicted, that doesn't spoil the fun or the chance to spend some time with Eva's values and outlook on life which celebrates nature and goodness and being true to yourself, not bad values to be reminded of. less
