Week 51 – 2016

I am determined to finish out 2016. Week 51 covers December 19 – 25. As always, your feedback is appreciated and encouraged.

The Early Stories of Truman Capote – I received this as an actual book in a Goodreads giveaway. I thought these were quite good, especially knowing how young Capote was when he wrote them. This is a rather short collection and I read them rather quickly, in case you need a short quick read for the end of the year to meet your reading goals. This was definitely entertaining. I’m giving it 3 stars.

Setting Free the Kites by Alex George – I received this as an e-book from the publisher via NetGalley. I truly loved this book. I recommend it to everyone. If you like a good story with a lot of feelings, this is for you. It’s not really a coming of age story. It’s more about how a young adult might deal with tragedy and all of the other things that life might throw at you. The characters are well written. You feel emotionally involved in the story. I actually had to go in a store minutes after tears were running down my face, and I felt a little silly, but this book is definitely worth a little real life embarrassment. Read it. I’m giving it 5 stars.

The Grownup by Gillian Flynn – I borrowed this as an e-book from the Boston Public Library. This author has a real knack for writing really complex characters with questionable morals. All of the people in this story suck. But you end up rooting for some of them. Maybe. This is a short story and you should just read it. It would take longer for me to write a proper summary. I’m kidding. It’s longer than that. I’m giving it 3 stars.

And that’s it. Not too bad for a week that included Christmas. When you see what book I picked up the following week, you’ll understand why this is sort of a short one. As always, I love to hear from my readers, so let me know what you think, click on the like button, or just say hi. I like those too.
