The Coming of the Third Reich (By Richard J. Evans)
This is the first installment of The Third Reich Trilogy by Richard J. Evans and I must tell you, as a guy who reads a minimum of ten WW2 books a year, this is undoubtedly one of the best books I have read in regards to understanding the genesis of the Nazi party in Germany.
One of the quintessential subjects of World War Two has always been HOW the Nazi party achieved what they did in Germany in such a short period of time. Evans shows how powerful a tool Nationalism (and Socialism) are when wielded by the right person in the right socio-economic climate.
Out of all the WW2 historians, Evans, (perhaps next to Antony Beevor) is one of the most pleasurable to read. His narrative style flows very easily without getting bogged down in facts, figures and dates.

The Sisters Brothers (By Patrick DeWitt)
There is a lot I can say on the topic of Westerns, but in the spirit of brevity, I will say if you are looking for a “traditional” western tale, do not read this one. If you are however looking for an off-beat, quirky, violent and at times hilarious story of two brothers who work as assassins in 1850’s Oregon and California, this one is for you.
Just as a footnote, the actor, John C. Reilly, recently bought the film rights to this book and will star as Eli, the older brother. That should be a hoot.
