About the AuthorUSA Today best-selling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories — her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.

I’ve read a few series in my life with shifters working for the government. A few were enjoyable, but this one really hit home for me. It took a few chapters for me to get into the writing style, but once I did, I had a hell of a time seeing Kaitlyn go through the shifters’ training and finish it. Yeah, it’s pretty obvious that a female human wouldn’t be able to succeed (go beyond expectations) in the wolves’ usual high bar, but seeing her keep up with them and prove that she had what it took really made for an enjoyable read. I especially loved that there was more going on than her just passing the tests. Jax was adorable, both of them pretty complex people with their own struggles between doing what was morally right and what their government demanded of them.
I’m a total sucker for the girls who hold their own with the boys, and who doesn’t love the comradery between teams? The romance was nice and slow, but still hot with the forbidden fact that he’s her superior. Seeing them turn into complex people because of what they were told to do vs what they felt was right was the cherry on top for characters. Add in the rest of the WOLF team and their own little stories, and you’ve got a seriously fun military read with a good mix of urban fantasy. I highly recommend you check this out. I know I’m looking forward to the next installment!
