review 1: The Price of Love: And Other Stories includes- Cornelius Jubb (2/5 stars)- The Magic of Your Touch (3/5 stars)- The Eastvale Ladies’ Poker Circle (2/5 stars)- The Ferryman’s Beautiful Daughter (2/5 stars)- Walking the Dog (1/5 stars)- Blue Christmas (1/5 stars)- The Cherub Affair (1/5 stars)- Shadows on the Water (1/5 stars)- Birthday Dance (2/5 stars)- Like a Virgin (1/5 stars)So you see, the only short story I really liked was “The Magic of Your Touch”. I found the short stories to be nothing brilliant or impressive. Most of them were just kind of…bland. But remember that this is all just my personal opinion; other readers might find these stories spectacular – I just didn’t. Before reading this, I didn’t know anything about the author at all. I just pick... moreed this book up from the library at random. Peter Robinson is apparently famous for his Inspector Banks series, but I didn’t like Inspector Banks at all. He seemed to be a very disagreeable person to me. So I would only recommend this to fans of the author.
review 2: I checked this book out of the library primarily to read the Banks-related stories. The first one, "Going Back", fills in a portion of the Banks narrative with a story surrounding his parents' 50th anniversary party. "The Eastvale Ladies' Poker Circle" is a fairly simple little mystery; "Blue Christmas" was fairly forgettable. I did like the final section of the book - the novella, "Like a Virgin", which fills us in on Banks' backstory from his days in London including how he got his scar.I read several of the other short stories in the book but they didn't do much for me. less
