review 1: Eh - I just started this book and am about 75pg in and it doesn't capture my attention or maintain it. I had anticipated the letter style of the book but even that didn't set my reading stage up well. This is a well put together book - just not one I will finish thoroughly. The questions that are (in my mind) the overarching questions (worst serial killer vs accusers created the violent fiction) don't seem to be delved into much nor are they hinted at in the book. it is well researched and the writing is effortless but the subject doesn't attract me as much as I thought it would.
review 2: I absolutely loved this book ( big fan of historical fiction.Erzsbeth Bathory (who was a real person , shocking) came to life in John's novel "The Countess". It was a very we
... morell researched book that took you right into the 16th century Hungary. Erzsbeth came to life in these pages, she was a real person with feelings and determination. she was a mother, a sister, wife and a master of her own domain. Those who are interested in the Countess will love this book because you will learn about her times and her country, and find out why the legends (and the nickname The "Blood" Countess) were created.p.s if you are reading this book for the gore this is not that type of book less
