review 1: I loved this cleverly written young adult read. I was a little reluctant to begin because of the science fiction label it had, but I really found it to be more of a reflection of the twists in the relationships of a pre-teen as she comes to understand who she is. A coming of age book with a science fiction twist. I did not enjoy a wrinkle in time which is what I feared this would turn into. Not at all the case. Highly recommend. Will be having my girls read for sure.
review 2: I'm not sure what caught my eye, causing me to pick up this book. Although as an adult I often read YA, this seemed aimed at an even younger audience (with the main character being in 6th grade). Although there is a slight mystical/mysterious slant, for the most part, this is "realistic f
... moreiction" which isn't my main reading choice.I'm really glad I did pick this up though. It was a quick read, just over 200 pages. This book was ... odd, but intriguing! It immediately captured my attention. I'm not a big fan of first person, nor of present tense, and here the author is addressing "you" (not the reader, but a specific reader) and it's just ODD. The chapters are super short. They really jump around, both in time and in thought. Quite random at times. Even within the chapters, just the sentences and thoughts would be stuck together and yet ... it all worked! The chapter headings were very unique as well. I really started paying attention to them when I figured out the parallel to the "categories" in the Pyramid game. Nothing super profound, just unique and definitely stuck with the flavor of the writing.I liked the story too. There were little profound moments and realizations. I think I figured out a bit of what was coming, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment at all.I do wonder what a younger reader would think of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult! I remember LOVING "A Wrinkle in Time" and then re-reading it as an adult and not feeling the same emotion toward it ... I wonder what I would have thought of this as my younger self? less

The real joy in this book was letting the story unfold before you instead of figuring out the ending so I don't want to share too much in this review. I fell in love with the narrating character Miranda and I appreciated the nod to A Wrinkle in time. It is categorized as a children's book so I'm not the target audience. I didn't find the book particularly deep or insightful. I highly recommend this for those willing to brave the children's section (or get the e-book) for a quirky short interesting read.
