review 1: If you like the Moe Prager formula that Coleman follows in the previous works of the series, you won't be disappointed with this latest installment. Rumblings in the rumor mill are that this is his penultimate volume and that the next book will be Coleman's last with Moe; given that Hurt Machine opens with Moe leaving an appointment with his oncologist, that sounds about right. But, this doesn't stop Coleman from churning out 300-odd noir-laden pages of sex, violence, and intrigue.
review 2: Although this is the first book by Coleman that I've read, I didn't feel as if I had stepped into the middle of a series. The private detective who is the main character is very flawed, which I always appreciate. He's struggling with a potentially terminal tumor, the memory
... more of a dead wife, an ex-wife who suddenly reappears in his life, a current girlfriend who isn't happy about that reappearance, and a case that it seems no one wants him within ten feet of. I found it to be a very entertaining read and am interested in reading others by this author. less
