review 1: This one has been on my laptop for far too long. I am not a fan of e-books. I thought I could get used to them but hard as I try, it still feels alien to me to read novels on my screen. I need paper, I need a solid copy, I need to turn the pages, I need ink. There are, however, people in this world that can make me get over all that and actually sit down and read a book on my screen. Two of these people have written this book. Reesa Herberth is a wonderful woman whose writing career I was lucky enough to follow over the past years. I remember the excitement when this came out and there was no way I would NOT buy this book. I'll be honest, SciFi is still not my thing but sometimes, I give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. Mind you, the focus in this story isn't on the Sci... moreFi aspects but on the romance between Riv and "Ducks", which is by the way, amazingly cute and clever and sweet, like the authors promised. I loved how they interacted at the very beginning, or should I say, how Riv kept talking and poor Ducks just sat staring at him? I really liked how they wrote these scenes. Their style is solid and authentic; it thankfully lacks the over-cheesy note that sometimes sticks to stories like these. My only complaint is the length of the story. It's too short. I wanted to know more. Once I'd wrapped my head around the world and everything, once I started building a picture from the small hints that were thrown at me throughout the story, I WANTED them. I want to know what's going on in between the chapters and the huge time-jumps. That being said, I can only recommend this book and with it these two women, who know how to put words into little perfect sentences and create something believable and life-like with a fluffy undertone that will warm your heart and make you smile.
review 2: I am a great fan of sci-fi/space novels, and this one was a great example of how two very different men can find that spark inside the other, thus creating an unbreakable bond that can only grow stronger and greater through the contact. There was a perfect balance of intrigue, sensuality, innocence, carnality, new beginnings, old fears, and groundbreaking love that didn't overwhelm the senses, but engaged the reader totally. I also loved the fact that while there was sensuality, steamy conversation, teasing looks, and hot kisses throughout the book, it didn't have any explicit sex in it (IMHO), and I find that a wonderful respite from a lot of the futuristic sci-fi novels I read. Honestly, people do a heck of a lot more than feck in space :) Although it's great to do so, it's wonderful to have it as an accent rather than the story line. I can't wait to read more of their story, and more of the Ylendrian Empire! less
