review 1: Wow! What a great book! I thought that given the subject matter, this book might be depressing, but Swindle writes a heartfelt story that is filled with both hope and humor. I had a hard time putting this book down, and the characters stayed with me long after I finished the last page. I will definitely be recommending Swindle's book to friends, and looking forward to reading her next novel which comes out this summer.
review 2: Mighty Bright Shiny Star of a book!I just loved this jem of a book! It helped me understand why certain things happen to certain people and helped me relate to the complexities and heartbreak experienced by alcoholics. It is a powerful rollercoaster of a book with an endearing but flawed main character who captured my heart from the beg... moreinning. There is heartbreak, loss, grief, humour, dysfuncional families, love, envy, joy, sadness, strength, spirituality, faith, friendship, teacher/student connections, and overwhelming hope that no matter what life throws at you there is always a way to get through it with the help of special friends and taking a day at a time! I really didn't want to finish it as I loved Piper so much.... I ordered Renee's first book after reading the first three chapters of this book as I just love her style of writing and how it makes the reader feel so involved in the story. Please read this book....it's way too good to miss! less
