review 1: It was an enjoyable story, except for that damn, annoying old man who kept interrupting, often in the middle of a sentence, to say something stupid! "Look at that! 3 words in a row that start with 'F' or 'D'" etc... Every time (3 times) that he mentioned the word 'Sofa' he had to say, "I think that was what they called it back then" Ugh, (que the eye roll). I don't know why the author (and his editor) thought that was such a great idea. He even pulls you out of intense moments with some inane comment. I tried to skim over it as much as possible because the story was good.
review 2: Simply put, this book was awful. What a disappointment and a waste of time. I had high hopes since Richard Matheson has such a wonderful reputation.. I held out hope, just waiting fo... morer something to happen, and when the book was over I was just annoyed and slightly confused about how he ever got it published in the first place. The 2 star rating really only stems from the fact that I enjoy fantasy novels, and the fairy world was mildly interesting.. but gosh this one was an absolute miss. less
