Worst books of 2017

There are very few days remaining of 2017 so why not spend those days complaining about the six worst books I read in 2017?

The six books I’m about to talk about weren’t exactly terrible they were just the books I didn’t enjoy this year. The title Worst Books of the year is purely because its shorter then ‘Not great books that I was disappointed by in 2017’.

Ok so first up is WARP Reluctant Assasin by Eoin Colfer. The premis for this was FBI witness protection but with time travel. That’s not what I got out of this. I didn’t click with the writing style and I just felt annoyed and frustrated throughout this whole thing and it felt like such a relief when I finally powered through and finished this.

Next up is Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This is such a beloved book, so many people love this but unfortunately I’m not one of them. I was really excited about reading a book that’s so different from every other book on my shelf but I didn’t like it. Maybe it was a weird slump I was going through, either way I did not enjoy this.

And then we have Breaking by Danielle Rollins. This was a book I requested off Netgalley and it was ok. Below average. It took me a really long while to read, by now I cant really remember what went on or how it ended.

This next book, my heart breaks putting it on here, is The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan. This leans more towards disappointing rather then being terrible. I reread book 1 of The Trials of Apollo and it was great, I enjoyed it even more the second time around but book 2 just fell flat for me. Yes it was enjoyable at times but still not as great as I was expecting/hoping.

Second to last is Miles Morales Spider-Man by Jason Reynolds. I had every intention to love this book. Why wouldn’t I? I love Spider-Man and it was a great opportunity for me to experience a none Peter Parker version. In the end though I felt like it was missing so much from the plot, it was like I’d started reading half way through the story. Hopefully I’ll enjoy the animated movie next year more then this.

And finally we have Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano. This had been on my shelf for so long and I’d basically been pinning after this book for a while before that so I clearly had high hopes for this. It ended up being a let down. The aspect of her touching people and feeling their emotions wasn’t even half as big of a deal as I’d hoped. Her using this ability of hers to help find the killer would have been so much better but no. And the character Nearly Boswell actually annoyed me sometimes.

So those are the six most disappointing books of 2017. They’re in no specific ranking except from time of reading, the ones closer to the bottom being my most recent.
