review 1: This book was a little boring but I learned a lot while reading it. The book talks about how Superman was created and every single little detail about Superman and the creator. Then the author starts to talk about The Ku Klux Klan. Puts in every single detail about The KKK. The he explains how these to things collided. What happened is that one of the Superman comics was an asian boy who got captured by The KKK and was going to get killed by them but Superman saved him. Why this was such an issue is because The KKK did want to be noticed and the comic my them obviously existent. And all along this is what they were trying to avoid.
review 2: Good background on both the development of Superman as a comic/radio show and the development of the KKK. I thought I kne
... morew a good deal about the origins of both, but I learned quite a bit about both--especially about the business model that drove Klan leaders: they were in it for the money, not for the hate (although they assuredly carried both desires). It's mind-boggling that an institution that has caused so much death, destruction and fear was created primarily to make money for its organizers. Thank goodness for crusaders like the Superman folks that helped sway public opinion back against the forces of hate. less
