The Kane Chronicles: The Graphic Novels
review 1: I really liked the addition of pictures to the already great novel. i had already read the original book and had finished the series when i picked up this adaptation and i have to say it really followed the story line. it is about brother and sister Carter an Sadie cane who upon meeting for the first time in 10 years find out that there dad wad an Egyptian sorcerer and that they are the blood of the pharaohs. they must defeat the Egyptian god set with the help of gods that have taken refuge in them to save there father from death. all and all i really loved the book and i recommend it to anyone.
review 2: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordon is about siblings Carter and Sadie Kane and their exciting journey to keep the Egyptian gods of chaos from destroying the worl
... mored. The Kane children are the connection between two bloodlines of Egyptian pharaohs and are powerful magicians. Yet, neither of them know. After their mother died, Carter was raised with his father, and traveled the world. Sadie was raised by her mother’s parents, in England. When their father tries to host Osiris (god of the dead), Carter and Sadie become hosts themselves! This graphic novel is interesting because the use of the Egyptian gods in present times allows the reader to connect to the story. For example, at the top of page 85, Nut (the sky goddess) is seen watching over Sadie and Carter’s flight to Memphis. The goddess is supposed to be very old, but is active in airplanes in modern day. Another example of how the author uses life as we know it today, is when Set (the god of desert storms) visits Phoenix, Arizona where he plans to build the Red Pyramid and wipe out the United States and possibly the world. Set stands upon a plateau, looking down at the urbanized Phoenix city. This is found on page 29. Also, on page 50, Bast (the cat goddess) “borrows” a car and knows how to drive. In ancient Egyptian times, that would not be possible. She is a goddess that can drive a car and knows how to get to navigate New York. In this way, the author demonstrates how a common city such as New York is used to tie gods from another millennium to popular cities of today. I would recommend this book to all teens and fans of the Percy Jackson series. The Percy Jackson and Kane series are similar, so Rick Riordan fans will learn about new gods, but to the same original theme. Teen readers will enjoy this visual experience while gaining knowledge in an exciting, fast-paced book. less
