review 1: **Spoilers within**I was SUPER excited that R.L. Stine had written another Fear Street novel because these were my favorite growing up. I still have about 50 or so R.L. Stine books on my book shelf. This book was good, but it just didn't have the same enticing feeling to it. The ending, which is WAY different from the other novels, just left me super confused.Rachel goes to a party that everyone warned her not to go to because she likes Brendan Fear. People start dying, everyone is freaking out, but then it turns out to be a game? They're not really dead? And everyone thinks Rachel is crazy when she sees the ghost? In the original Fear Street novels, weird things happen, they are REAL, and people believe in the weird things that happen. I just didn't really feel... more as excited about this book after finishing it. I still believe that Lights Out is my favorite book, as I always can remember the general plot of it. Maybe the next one will be better, if there is a next one.
review 2: Still just so happy RL Stine wrote a new Fear Street book after two decades. I mean it's obviously aimed at young teens, but I STILL LOVED IT. I think it might even be a step up on skill and maturity than the original Fear Street books, which makes sense considering how early kids these days are exposed to horrifying things. But it was such a fun story and even though I could spot the first twist a mile away (and had a hunch about the second twist), I really enjoyed the ride. And the final, creepy scene with Rachel's tangerine jacket ACTUALLY REALLY DID CREEP ME OUT, even though I'm an adult and I should know better than to be spooked by a kid's horror book. Also? There are more new Fear Street books coming out soon and I am totally gonna read them all. less

3.5 stars. Stein is still a great storyteller, and has picked up where he left off with this one.

Such a great return of the Fear Street novels. Even though I'm an adult now, I loved it!

Not his best, but certainly interesting enough to get through and enjoy in parts.
