review 1: The prologue and first chapter were exactly what I expected from this book. A gritty behind-the-scenes look at a circus. However, beyond that the story just didn't pan out for me. Sure, there was plenty of action, but it didn't really interest me. I guess I was expecting more of the circus life rather than Wild Boy and Clarissa taking an adventure to discover a killer. I was rather bored throughout the duration of the book. Plus, I had figured out who the cloaked figure was early on, so the appeal of whodunit was gone almost immediately.
review 2: The setting is Victorian London, but this reads like a fairy tale or fantasy. Wild Boy has been horrifically abused because his body is covered with fur, making him look like an animal. Sold into a traveling sho... morew and working as freak, his life gets even more complicated and painful when he is framed for murder. Teaming up with a raven-haired acrobat, he must find the true murderer and escape the hordes who wish to see him hang. I was rooting for Wild Boy from page one - he is a strangely vulnerable and brilliant character! less
