review 1: Boy, the old timer Science Fiction writers really had their fingers on the pulse of the world. I've often wondered how they were able to predict the future but then I realized--some of the ideas they predicted were then made true by the people of today that read and loved the ideas of the past. Plus, if you understand human nature, it's not hard to predict certain outcomes, like overpopulation/under population, disease and wars. This Crowded Earth very much reminds me of Make Room, Make Room by Harry Harrison (which later became the movie Soylent Green.) Too many people are crowding the planet and room and food are becoming scarce. The government comes up with a plan (which I won't spoil for you.) Reading This Crowded Earth often made me feel like I was reading today's news... morepaper.A very good and quick read, and if you look, may be available for free download.
review 2: This is my first Robert Bloch novel and I'm glad I finally got around to reading him. This novel was highly entertaining and thought provoking and for a novel that has been around for years it still made some interesting points on the plight of mankind in the future. I now see why so many horror and sci-fi writers talk so fondly about his influence on their writing. I will be reading more of his work in the future. less
