review 1: Old City Hall is set in Toronto and the title refers to a real, historic building there now used as a courthouse. The wife of a prominent radio host is found in a bathtub, and he says "I killed her". One knows that he didn't or there would be no story, but it takes an investigator and a policeman to find out what happened. Good characters, dialog and plot. Good courthouse scenes, you can tell the author is a lawyer. I liked this book very much and look forward to reading more of this author's works.
review 2: Set in Toronto this is a well written detective story with properly developed characters. When a famous radio show host confesses to murdering his wife it all seems very clean cut. Except he refuses to speak and the story does not quite stack up.T
... morehe author has a range of characters here and uses them well, they have distinct personalities and it is easy to engage with them. Toronto is brought to life and you do get sucked in as the plot develops. It works well right up until the conclusion where things are not fully resolved and you are left with more questions than answers. A bit unsatisfying given all that has gone before. less
